What to Expect at Margaritas Mexican Restaurant

The food is the focus here. Monica personally shops for fresh vegetables, fruits, and meats every morning. The beans are soaked overnight, and the salsa and sauces are chopped and crushed throughout the day. Hot tortilla chips are constantly coming out of the kitchen.

The menu includes savory burritos, crunchy tacos, and crisp quesadillas with melted cheese. The restaurant also offers daily and weekly specials, often served as small plates or tapas portions, featuring Latin American favorites like tostones, fried yucca, and empanadas. Ask your server about the sizzling shrimp in garlic sauce, the fried yucca with Peruvian cheese sauce, or the tostones with shredded beef, which are family favorites.

Stumbled upon Margaritas Mexican Restaurant on Davis Islands during a bike ride and so glad we did. The food was very good—fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. I had the shrimp quesadilla without cheese but loaded up with veggies and tomato, and my partner ordered the queso for an appetizer and the beef enchilada combo. We both enjoyed every bite. We sat outside on the patio, which was perfect for a beautiful day and really added to the whole experience. Our only downside was the service timing. Our server was very friendly and great when he was with us, but he seemed stretched pretty thin. There were noticeable waits to order, get our food, and even for the bill and to-go bag. For a Saturday afternoon, it felt like they just needed a bit more staff. Overall though, we’d definitely come back—great food, great atmosphere, just hoping for a little smoother service next time!

After a really rough week at work, our team decided to unwind with margaritas and Mexican food. Unfortunately, the first things we ordered for the table that came out was queso with beef… and it came with a cockroach. I was actually the one defending the restaurant. “It’s probably just the skin from a bean,” I told everyone. Then I flipped it over. Turns out bean skins don’t have legs. They took the bowl away, but minutes later our party was moved to a larger table that gave me a direct view into the kitchen. From my seat, I could see what appeared to be one large heated container of queso with staff scooping from it to refill bowls. The replacement queso we received also appeared to come from that same container. Maybe it wasn’t the same batch, but that’s certainly how it looked from where I was sitting, and it completely eliminated any confidence we had in eating it. We skipped ordering any more queso and stuck with fried appetizers instead because, frankly, that felt like the safer bet. They removed the queso from our bill, but we still paid $177 for appetizers and drinks. My concern isn’t the money—it’s food safety. Replacing a bowl doesn’t address the issue if the replacement appears to come from the same source. I genuinely hope this was a one-time incident because no restaurant wants to be remembered for something like this. Queso and cockroaches? No thanks.

Came with my 6 friends and we had a great time. There weren’t many other people in there but drinks were great and so was all of the food. I ordered the tilapia tacos. So many great flavors and I added the salsa that came with the chips on top of them. Santiago was our server and came over throughout our experience multiple times to check in on us and make sure we were satisfied. I’ll be back soon!

Initially stopped in for a few drinks & our waiter was so outgoing & welcoming (along with delicious chips n salsa) that we stayed for dinner! Great food! Definitely will be back

0/10. One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. The service was terrible from start to finish. Our waitress couldn’t even manage to take a complete drink order for a table of five people. She came back trying to take food orders when only two people had even been acknowledged, including completely skipping over the person paying for the meal. When my drink finally arrived, she set it down on someone else’s side of the table. I had to tell her it was mine. Throughout the entire meal she was nowhere to be found, rarely checked on us, and seemed completely uninterested in doing her job. The restaurant also had flies hovering around and trying to land on our food while we were eating, which was disgusting and made the experience even worse. Then came the food. I ordered the churrasco and it was so chewy I could barely eat it. For the amount of time we waited, I expected something much better than meat that felt like a workout for my jaw. Speaking of waiting, be prepared to spend a lot of time sitting around because everything took forever. Slow service, poor attention to customers, flies around the food, and disappointing meals is not a combination that makes anyone want to come back. There are too many good restaurants in Tampa to waste your time and money here. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else.
