The Marriott Water Street Tampa is the hotel at 505 Water Street, on the downtown waterfront next to the Tampa Convention Center. The trouble is that a lot of people search for it using three or four different names, and a second Marriott sits across the street with a very similar one. Before you book, it helps to know exactly which front desk you're dealing with, what the destination fee covers, which restaurants are open when, and what parking costs.
This guide pulls from Marriott's own pages, the City of Tampa's parking pages, and Visit Tampa Bay's listing, and I've kept the sources separate where they don't agree. For a wider look at where to stay downtown, see my Tampa hotels overview and the Tampa Riverwalk hotels guide.
Address and which hotel you're booking
Tampa Marriott Water Street
- Address: 505 Water Street, Tampa, FL 33602
- Local phone: 813-221-4900
- Toll-free booking line: 1-800-228-9290
People say "Tampa Marriott Water Street," "Marriott Tampa Water Street," "Marriott Water Street Tampa," and "Water Street Tampa FL" for this same property. They all land on 505 Water Street.
The mix-up that matters is the neighbor. JW Marriott Tampa Water Street is at 510 Water Street (phone 813-221-4950). It's a different hotel under the Marriott Bonvoy umbrella, connected to the Tampa Marriott Water Street by a glass skybridge on the third floor. Marriott markets the two together as one destination with 1,246 rooms and suites combined, three rooftop pools across the pair, spa access, and more than 150,000 square feet of event space.
Same district, same skybridge, different front desks and different restaurant lineups. Anchor and Brine and Lona are on the Tampa Marriott Water Street side. Beacon and Driftlight are on the JW side. When you book, check that the confirmation says 505, not 510.
Old names and other mix-ups
Waterside vs. Water Street. Visit Tampa Bay's description of this property still carries older wording in places that calls it the "Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina." Marriott itself uses Water Street now. Plenty of people still say Waterside because that's the name on their old conference badge. I'd book through Marriott under the Water Street name.
The marina. Visit Tampa Bay mentions a 28-slip full-service marina among the property's amenities. That doesn't mean a boat slip comes with your room, and nothing in the sources says it does. What Marriott does describe on the water side is a water taxi, water sports, and bike rentals as part of the destination fee.
The ballroom. If you're booking for an event, the hotel matters more than the neighborhood name. Marriott splits the event space like this: the JW has about 100,000 square feet, including what Marriott calls the largest hotel ballroom in Tampa Bay, while the Tampa Marriott Water Street has about 50,000 square feet of redesigned meeting space.
Rooms, fees and check-in
Marriott's basics for this hotel:
- Check-in: 4:00 p.m.
- Check-out: 11:00 a.m.
- Minimum age to check in: 18
- Smoke-free property, with electric car charging stations listed (subject to availability)
Visit Tampa Bay lists the property at 727 sleeping rooms including 28 suites, across 27 floors. Marriott's meetings page references roughly 699 guest rooms plus 28 suites for this hotel. The counts differ by source, so don't treat either as exact. Visit Tampa Bay also lists AAA Four Diamond status.
The destination fee
A destination fee applies (listed at $20/night on Marriott's rooms page); confirm the amount when booking. According to that same rooms page, the fee currently includes:
- A daily $20 food and beverage credit
- Daily fitness or wellness classes
- A daily beverage tasting
- Your choice of admission for two on a round-trip water taxi, one hour of water sports, or one hour of bike rentals
- Enhanced daily Wi-Fi
Marriott notes that the rate and inclusions are subject to change.
Early check-in and late check-out
Guaranteed early arrival or late departure starts at $100 plus tax. Guaranteed connecting rooms are also a bookable option.
Cancellation
Visit Tampa Bay's listing gives a cancellation window of 24 hours before arrival to avoid a one-night-plus-tax charge. Check your own reservation terms, since rate types vary.
Room types and packages
Marriott describes the Presidential Suite as about 1,800 square feet, with multiple oversized balconies, a formal dining room, a living room, and a personal office. There's also a Family Fun Package that includes connecting waterfront rooms, toys and crafts, complimentary breakfast for children, and special seating at the pool. I didn't find a price for the package, so ask when you book.
The Concierge Lounge is closed Saturdays and is complimentary for Platinum, Titanium, and Ambassador Elite members plus one guest.
Nightly rates
I'm not quoting a nightly rate. Rates move with events, conventions, and season, so the destination fee and early check-in fee are the only dollar figures here that come from Marriott directly. Price your dates on Marriott's official page.
Pool, fitness and Wi-Fi
Rooftop pool. The outdoor rooftop pool is a complimentary amenity, and cabanas/palapas are available for $100. The Pool Bar & Grill on the roof keeps limited hours: Friday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed Monday through Thursday. Assuming the pool bar is open every afternoon like a resort is how people end up disappointed on a Tuesday.
Fitness center. The on-site fitness center is complimentary and newly redesigned, with cardio and free-weight equipment.
Wi-Fi. In-room Wi-Fi is available. Marriott Bonvoy members get complimentary in-room internet when booking direct, and the destination fee includes enhanced daily Wi-Fi.
Where to eat
Marriott lists seven outlets at this hotel. Hours below are from Marriott's dining page.
Riverwalk Terrace (breakfast and brunch, smart casual)
- Mon–Fri: 6:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m.
- Sat–Sun: 6:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
- Phone: 813-204-6391
- Note that weekend service runs later than weekday service, which is the reverse of what people assume if they only remember "brunch until one."
PERK (coffee, teas, pastries, grab-and-go; cashless)
- Every day, 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Anchor and Brine (seafood-forward; cashless)
- Mon–Thu and Sun: 11:00 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
- Fri–Sat: 11:00 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
- Phone: 813-431-6951
- Visit Tampa Bay also mentions weekend brunch here, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. That comes from Visit Tampa Bay, not a separate Marriott schedule, so confirm before planning around it.
Lona by Chef Richard Sandoval (modern Mexican; cashless; smart casual)
- Every day, 4:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.
- Phone: 813-204-6390
Pool Bar & Grill
- Fri–Sun: 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; closed Mon–Thu
Bright Ice
- Fri–Sat: 1:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m.
- Sun: 1:00 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
A La Carte (room service and grab-and-go)
- Mon–Thu and Sun: 6:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m.
- Fri–Sat: 6:30 a.m.–11:00 p.m.
Anchor and Brine and Lona take reservations. Groups of 13 or more go through the hotel's events email. Picnic baskets for two to four guests are offered, but I didn't find a price.
Parking
This is where downtown trips get expensive, so it's worth sorting out before you arrive.
Hotel valet (published by the hotel):
- Daily valet: $55
- Short-term daytime valet: $35
- The hotel asks guests to contact the property about self-parking options
Pam Iorio Parking Garage (City of Tampa): The hotel lists this city garage, 0.2 miles away at 301 Channelside Drive, for public off-site parking.
- Non-event rate: $3 per hour, with a $18 daily maximum
- Event rates: $5 to $50, depending on the event
- 790 total spaces, 41 ADA spaces, 2 EV charging stations
- Visitor hourly parking runs overnight up to 6:00 a.m.
On a Lightning home night or a convention week, that event pricing is what to plan for. The Tampa Bay Lightning page covers game nights, and the Tampa map helps you see how far the garage sits from where you're headed. Rates change, so confirm on the City of Tampa parking page before you go.
Getting here from the airport
Tampa International Airport is about 9 miles from the hotel, and St. Pete–Clearwater International is about 22 miles. Marriott lists no hotel shuttle from either airport. Visit Tampa Bay's listing mentions a courtesy area shuttle and gives a slightly different airport distance, so if a shuttle matters to your trip, call the hotel at 813-221-4900 and ask directly.
If you're also planning to cross the bay, my Tampa to St. Petersburg guide covers that trip.
What you can walk to
The hotel sits on the Tampa Riverwalk waterfront, and Marriott describes Riverwalk access as steps from the property. Marriott also names the Florida Aquarium, Benchmark International Arena, and Sparkman Wharf as nearby landmarks.
Walking distances below are routing estimates from OpenStreetMap pedestrian routing from 505 Water Street. Confirm on a map the day you go:
- Benchmark International Arena (formerly Amalie Arena, 401 Channelside Drive): about 0.32 miles
- Sparkman Wharf (615 Channelside Drive): about 0.43 miles
- Florida Aquarium (701 Channelside Drive): about 0.77 miles
Meetings and the Convention Center
The hotel is adjacent to the Tampa Convention Center and offers about 50,000 square feet of renovated meeting space. Visit Tampa Bay lists large ballroom capacities and wheelchair accessibility. There's also a UPS Business Center on the second level: Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.–2 p.m., closed Sunday.
During a trade show week, confirm which skybridge and entrance your badge line uses before you leave the room.
Pets
Pets are welcome. Marriott's policy allows up to 2 pets per room, 50 lbs maximum per pet, with a non-refundable pet fee of $150 per stay.

The short version
If you want one thing to remember: confirm you're booked at 505 Water Street, confirm the destination fee amount when you book, and don't count on the pool bar midweek. For the full picture of nearby options, start with the Tampa hotels overview, and go to Marriott's hotel page to check current rates and policies.
Event weeks often center on the Tampa Convention Center a short walk away.
