If you are trying to figure out how to catch the Tampa Bay Lightning in person, there are three things worth sorting out before anything else: what the team and its building are actually called, how tickets work, and what the 2026-27 season looks like now that it is under way. This guide covers all three, using what the team and the arena have published, and points you to the official sites for anything that changes from week to week.
What people call the team: Tampa Lightning, Lightning Tampa, and the real name
The name people use in conversation is usually the short one. "Tampa Lightning" and "Lightning Tampa" both get typed into search boxes constantly, and both mean the same NHL club. The team calls itself the Tampa Bay Lightning. There is no separate club called the Tampa Lightning, and the order of the words does not change who you are looking for.
This guide is about that NHL team, the building it plays in, and the season the team has described. The official club site is nhl.com/lightning, and that is where the live schedule and roster details belong. I have kept anything that changes out of this page rather than building a calendar from dates the team did not give.
The arena: Benchmark International Arena, not Amalie anymore
The first thing that trips people up is the building. The team gives its home as Benchmark International Arena, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa, FL 33602. That is downtown, on the Channelside and Water Street side of the city. It is not out by the fairgrounds and it is not a suburban rink.
The name change
I kept hearing the old name in my own head, so I went back to the naming announcement. Vinik Sports Group and Benchmark International announced a multi-year naming deal on August 13, 2025. Beginning that day, AMALIE Arena officially became Benchmark International Arena. AMALIE Motor Oil stayed on as a corporate partner, but the name came off the building.
So when someone tells you the Lightning still play at Amalie, you will know what they mean. People will keep saying it for a while. The official name, though, changed in August 2025, and the signs, the ticket window, and the arena's own materials use Benchmark International Arena. If you are navigating, follow the sign that says Benchmark International Arena at 401 Channelside. The arena's official site is benchmarkintlarena.com.
What the announcement says about the building
The company describes the venue this way:
- It debuted in 1996.
- It is the 19,092-seat downtown home of the Lightning.
- It is publicly owned, with Vinik Sports Group holding the lease.
- It sits in the Water Street neighborhood.
- The Lightning are three-time Stanley Cup champions: 2004, 2020, and 2021.
- The building has hosted three Stanley Cup championships since 1996.
The rebrand includes new exterior and interior signage and a premium level renamed the Benchmark International Club Level, with The Mark described as its signature all-inclusive experience. I never saw a price for The Mark, so I will not put a number on it. The deal also mentions more than $3 million in nonprofit contributions. That is a partnership figure, not a ticket price, and it is worth keeping separate in your head when you are budgeting for a night out.
Tickets: mobile only, and the phone list is the useful part
The team says tickets for games, concerts, and most events are bought at the ReliaQuest Ticket Office or through Ticketmaster, and that all tickets are mobile only. Do not plan on picking up a paper ticket at a window. Your ticket lives on your phone, so charge it before you leave the hotel.
For a fuller walkthrough of buying paths, see the companion guide to Lightning tickets.
Who to call
The most practical part of the team's ticketing information is the list of numbers. Different desks handle different things, and calling the wrong one wastes time. These are the numbers the team publishes, and it is worth confirming them on the official sites before you dial:
| Need | Number | |---|---| | Benchmark International Arena (main) | 813-301-6500 | | ReliaQuest Ticket Office | 813-301-2500 | | Season ticket member services | 813-301-6800 | | Group sales and party areas | 813-301-6900 | | Premium suites | 813-301-2505 | | Accessible seating | 813-301-6700 | | Ticketmaster (individual game tickets) | 1-800-745-3000 |
The ReliaQuest Ticket Office listing also includes a Vinik Sports Group box office email, which you will find on the arena site.
A few practical notes on using that list:
- Individual game tickets go through Ticketmaster or the ReliaQuest window.
- Season seats, groups, suites, and accessible seating each have their own number. Do not call the main arena line and expect a will-call fix when the team says your ticket is on your phone.
- Lost and found is handled by the arena itself. I never saw a list of what they were holding, so I cannot describe a process beyond the number and the desk. Start with the main arena line.
I do not have a ticket price, and the team's announcement did not give one, so I am not quoting a number here. Check Ticketmaster or the club site for current pricing.
The 2026-27 season: what the team announced
The team announced the 2026-27 regular season schedule, presented by AdventHealth, on July 16, 2026. For anyone who grew up on an 82-game season, the headline is the length: the Bolts play 84 games.
How the 84 games break down
The announcement spells out the structure so you can add it up yourself:
- Atlantic Division opponents: four games each, two at home and two on the road, for 28 divisional games.
- Metropolitan Division opponents: three games each, 24 games.
- Western Conference opponents: two games each, 32 games.
That adds to 84. Home and road split evenly, 42 and 42.
How the season started
The team opened on the road, with one game in New York at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers on October 1. The team recorded that opening night as a 5-1 loss to the Rangers. The home opener came the next Saturday, October 3, against the Washington Capitals at Benchmark International Arena, the first game of a three-game homestand. The team promoted a 2026 home-opener pregame guide for that night. I am not writing a Capitals score, because the team was still framing that game as the home opener rather than as a final I could repeat.
Homestands, road trips, and busy months
The schedule has a few shapes worth knowing if you are planning a trip around a game:
- Two six-game homestands: November 14 through November 27, and February 12 through February 23.
- Longest road trip: four games, and the team makes a trip that long four times.
- November has eight home games, more than any other month.
- December and February have seven home games each.
- December and March have the most road games, eight each.
- December is the busiest month overall, with 15 games.
Back-to-backs
There are 13 sets of back-to-back games. Eight of those sets are both games on the road. Four are split, one home and one away. One set is both games at Benchmark International Arena.
Rivals and rematches
A few dates the team called out specifically:
- Florida, the cross-state rival, does not come to Tampa until 2027 on this schedule. The home dates named are February 16 and March 23.
- Carolina, called the Stanley Cup champion in the announcement, makes its only visit on November 25.
- Montreal comes December 31 and April 8. The team calls those games a rematch of the 2026 first-round series.
I am not filling in the other 80-odd dates from memory. Several later dates in the announcement came with start times, such as 7 p.m. ET, 3:30, 4 p.m., 5 p.m., or 2 p.m., but I could not pin an opponent to each one, and a partial list is how a fake schedule starts. For the full calendar, use the official page at nhl.com/lightning/schedule.
When single-game tickets went on sale
Single-game tickets were set to go on sale to the public on Friday, August 14, at 10 a.m., with presales through the week of August 10 and each group given its own time. That on-sale is well behind us now, so for current games you will be looking at what is available on Ticketmaster or the box office.
Theme nights and giveaways
Theme nights for 2026-27 are posted as a set, from opening night through fan appreciation. Arena giveaways are limited items at select home games, and Hockey is for Everyone nights are a design series. I did not copy the item list or the artist list, because those change. The point is to go to the team for them rather than secondhand chatter. If a particular giveaway matters to you, check the club site close to game day.
Getting to the game: Channelside and the downtown waterfront
The arena sits in downtown Tampa's Channelside waterfront district, in the Water Street neighborhood. That matters for planning, because it puts you close to the rest of downtown rather than in an isolated lot.
During the six months I spent in Tampa, from November 2025 to May 2026, I stayed downtown with my aunt and cousins, so the Channelside side of the city was part of my regular geography. I did not take notes on parking prices or lot rules, so I will not quote any. For parking and the rest of the in-and-out logistics, the Tampa stadium guide is the better starting point, and the arena site at benchmarkintlarena.com is where current arena information lives.
If you are coming from out of town and want to stay close, the Tampa hotels guide covers neighborhoods, including waterfront options that make an evening game easy. Staying downtown is especially useful for games that run late or for back-to-back travel weekends.
Planning a Lightning trip around other Tampa events
A game night fits easily into a longer visit. Hockey season overlaps with a lot of what else is happening in the city, so it is worth checking the Tampa events calendar when you pick your dates. The long homestands are the easiest windows if you want to see more than one game: November 14 through 27 and February 12 through 23 are both six-game stretches at home.
If you only have one night, the tightest plan is to pick a date from the official schedule, buy through Ticketmaster or the ReliaQuest Ticket Office, and keep your phone charged for entry.
What I thought people were struggling with
Putting the research together, three points of confusion kept coming up.
The name. "Tampa Lightning" and "Lightning Tampa" are how people say it, but the club is the Tampa Bay Lightning. The building is no longer Amalie in anything official. It is Benchmark International Arena, 401 Channelside Drive, Tampa, FL 33602, with 19,092 seats, downtown, since the August 13, 2025 change.
The phone tree. Individual tickets go through Ticketmaster or the ReliaQuest window and are mobile only. Season seats, groups, suites, and accessible seating each have their own number.
The season length. The 2026-27 schedule is 84 games, not 82, with the division-by-division breakdown laid out so you can check the math. The home opener was October 3, 2026, against Washington, after an October 1 road game at the Rangers.

The Tampa Bay Lightning play at Benchmark International Arena on Channelside, the building that was AMALIE Arena until August 13, 2025.
